Fall Update #8C: Returning to Campus

This message is specific to students who were placed on the Fall 2020 housing waitlist.

Dear Student:

We regret to inform you that at this time we are unable to assign you a room on the Champlain Campus for Fall 2020. You have been placed on the waitlist for Campus Housing.

We are maintaining a waitlist of approximately 175 unassigned students who requested housing. The waitlist is ordered by credits (seniors to sophomores) to allow us to offer any spots that open up to seniors first. Rooms will open up over the following few weeks and we will be in touch with you if we are able to offer you a space on campus. Please remember that all classes will be available virtually and you are not required to attend classes on campus. All returning students will receive an email on August 3 with course details and an opportunity to provide details regarding your technology and internet needs for the fall.

If you have already secured off-campus housing or have decided to live at home and no longer want to be considered for on-campus housing, please email reslife@champlain.edu.

Quarantine Requirements & Returning to Campus

If you intend to visit campus for any reason, whether to attend classes or take part in activities, it is critical to understand whether you will be required to quarantine beforehand. We created this illustration to help you determine whether you are required to quarantine. The State of Vermont requires that individuals traveling from specific counties quarantine; the most recent list of counties requiring quarantine are available here. Please review the material carefully.

If you are required to quarantine, you have two choices:

  1. You may choose to quarantine at home for 14 days prior to your arrival on campus. If you choose this option, you must be able to travel to Vermong in your own vehicle to campus with limited stops (for example, you may stop for gas, but may not dine in a restaurant and must avoid groups). We encourage all students to quarantine at home if possible.
  1. You may choose to quarantine in your off-campus apartment or local residence—provided you are able to adequately quarantine from others living in your residence—for 14 days or until you test negative for COVID-19 on or after day seven. Do not visit campus during your quarantine except to be tested.

Testing

All students who visit campus must be tested upon arrival to Vermont and weekly thereafter at a Champlain College testing site. Testing will take place on-campus and will require a reservation. We will provide instructions for scheduling your COVID tests in an upcoming Update.

Questions?

Answers to many questions can be found on our COVID-19 website where we have a robust, and newly updated FAQ section and links to all messages from the College. You will receive additional Updates regarding the specifics of our Health & Safety Pledge, scheduling COVID-19 tests, and details related to transportation, on-campus dining and the campus experience in the coming weeks.

Best,
