Spring Housing Update #1A: Students Currently Housed On Main Campus

Dear students,

As President Akande announced earlier today, this spring, we will welcome back those students currently living on campus and anticipate being able to accommodate additional requests for housing. Residence halls will continue to operate at the existing lower density model of only single and double rooms. Priority for open or available beds will be given to seniors; however, we will strive to accommodate as many students as safely possible given reduced occupancy.

As a student currently living on campus, please review the following:

  • Current assignments will automatically be rolled over to the Spring 2021 semester.
  • Students who have already made the decision to study remotely during the spring semester (at home or off-campus) should submit the application on The Housing Director (THD) named “Cancel Housing Request” by October 25 to help us plan accordingly.
    • Students may cancel their on-campus housing by completing the “Cancel Housing Request” on THD without penalty through December 11. After December 11, the following cancellation fees apply:
      • Cancel December 12–31, 2020: $250
      • Cancel any time on or after January 1, 2021: $500
      • Cancel after move-in: student is responsible for the full cost of the semester
  • On Monday, October 12, the Spring 2021 academic schedule of classes will be shared with students and will indicate which classes will be offered Flex-Hybrid fully virtual or Flex-Hybrid mixed. This information will help students plan their housing needs.
  • Students who planned to study abroad in Montreal, Dublin, or with another program this spring should refer to the email(s) they received from the Office of International Education to determine their housing needs for Spring 2021.
  • December graduates: We will receive the list of graduating seniors from the Registrar and will remove spring housing assignments. No action to cancel spring housing is necessary. December graduates are expected to completely move out by November 22 at noon.
  • As a reminder, campus housing closes November 22 at noon.
  • We are carefully considering whether to allow students to leave their belongings in their room over the winter break. We anticipate making this decision by mid-November. As of today, students will be required to move out completely before Thanksgiving break.
  • More information on fall semester closing, winter break, and spring move-in will be communicated in the coming weeks. There will be a hardship request process for those who have a need to stay either during the final weeks of the semester or during the full winter break.

Thank you for your attention! Please email reslife@champlain.edu with any questions.
