CHAMPLAIN COLLEGE’S VIRTUAL GAP YEAR PROGRAM

“What if you could slow down and keep moving forward?” We are excited to announce a new offering for high-school graduates (18-21) who are looking for a transformative learning experience before they enter college, a Virtual Gap Year Experience.  This credit-bearing program will launch in late August, 2020 and includes three key components—academic discovery, holistic well-being and professional growth through a virtual internship. The delivery will be 100% virtual with synchronous (“live”) elements, self-paced lessons and virtual hands-on experiences. Check out this View article and the Virtual Gap Program website.

FALL 2020 FACULTY FEEDBACK & ACADEMIC INSTRUCTION PLANNING

As we await guidance about the academic model for Fall 2020, the Academic Leadership team has been discussing strategies to be ready to support faculty in collaboration with the Academic Affairs Committee (AAC) of the Faculty Senate.  This includes participation in or input on the Education Sub-Task Force work, updating Remote Teaching and Academic Continuity Standards, and requesting feedback from faculty on their feelings regarding possible scenarios for the fall and more.

We encourage faculty to enjoy the Memorial Day weekend and some much appreciated time off until we learn more, at which time we will be in touch with next steps and a plan for faculty support.

CENTER FOR LEARNING & TEACHING MESSAGE
Summer: The Center for Learning & Teaching (CLT) has been working with faculty from various divisions to prepare summer courses for remote instruction. The first summer courses launched this Monday. The CLT Team continues to work with other faculty who are still enhancing the Canvas components of their courses to meet the new Summer standards for remote instruction.

Fall: CLT is working closely with the Academic Leadership team to set up support structures and helpful resources for faculty preparing their courses for Fall ‘20.  While you are engaging in reflective practice at this time, we encourage you to consider the following aspects of your teaching:

1. Planning
2. Leveraging Canvas
3. Identifying Appropriate Academic Technology
4. Designing Units, Modules and Learning Experiences
5. Establishing Classroom Community/Culture
6. Becoming Proficient in Delivery and Facilitation
7. Assessing Student Work and Providing Feedback and 8. Requesting and Incorporating Feedback from Students.

As always, please feel free to reach out anytime you would like support with any aspect of your teaching practice clt@champlain.edu
