Faculty & Academic Staff Briefing #7

Dear Faculty and Academic Staff:

This daily briefing includes:

  • Caring For Our Students: Transparency In Our Process(es)
  • Digital Course Resources
  • Update on Student Communications

CARING FOR OUR STUDENTS: TRANSPARENCY IN OUR PROCESS(ES)

Over the last two weeks we have been in touch with many of our students and have supported them through this transition in various ways. Faculty and administrators are working to ensure that students with internship, practicum or field experience courses have remote or alternative means for completing those credits. Our Student Affairs team has been supporting students’ housing, health and travel needs. Information Systems, along with a team of faculty, have been helping students access hardware, software and connectivity. If you know of outstanding needs for your students please get in touch with Jen Nicholls, who can direct you to the right support people.

DIGITAL COURSE RESOURCES

More and more digital resources from vendors and publishers are becoming temporarily open-access to support academic communities as we move to remote learning. The library is maintaining a guide to help you navigate these resources. The library is also filling resource needs through purchase of electronic books and streaming video or through digitization of physical materials for electronic course reserve. For help finding or securing a resource, email referencedesk@champlain.edu.

UPDATE ON STUDENT COMMUNICATIONS

In Friday’s Daily Briefing we noted that students would be receiving a message from their Dean on Friday, March 20th.  After learning of other communications that would be sent to students, including Laurie’s video message (Friday) and Jeff Brown’s remote learning message (Saturday), we decided to delay the dean’s message to students until early this week.

ONGOING COMMUNICATIONS

Ongoing communication and resources for Faculty and Staff will be posted on The View. It’s a good idea to check the site daily as new communications and FAQs are posted regularly. Finally, all Faculty Daily Briefing emails are stored here and also hosted on The View.
