Message to Champlain Students Studying in New Zealand

Dear Students and Families,

As of today, our partner programs in New Zealand continue to operate, and Champlain College is not recommending that students return home at this time. Overall risk in New Zealand currently remains low, and the New Zealand government has committed to keeping universities open if at all possible. As such, we believe the best guidance for academic continuity and personal safety is to continue forward with your program in New Zealand. However, given the evolving situation with the COVID-19 pandemic, this recommendation is subject to change.

We understand that each student and family has different tolerance levels for responding to the minute-to-minute changes in COVID-19 cases. We want to respect these differences and support our students and families in their decision-making processes. However, if a student chooses to depart early, there may be challenges with academic continuity as the New Zealand institutions are not currently supporting remote instruction. For example, Champlain College will be unable to replicate or continue specialized courses such as AUT’s HRMG650 or TIKA500, and it could be difficult to transition from other courses at AUT or Nelson into existing Champlain courses. That being said, if you prefer to leave New Zealand at this time, please contact the Office of International Education at OIE@champlain.edu or (802) 865-8450 and we will see what we can do to facilitate an early departure from New Zealand.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely and remain in contact with you as we reassess in light of changing conditions. Please let us know how we can assist as you make your decisions.

Sincerely,
Noah
