The following email was sent to students studying at the Champlain College Montreal campus and their parents, at 8 AM on Friday, March 13.

Due to the evolving nature of the coronavirus outbreak worldwide, including the travel ban announced Wednesday night, the Champlain College Montreal program will suspend operations for the remainder of the Spring 2020 semester and we have advised students to return home as soon as possible.

Our colleagues in Montreal will actively work with students to support safe departures and arrange for students to collect their belongings and move out of Evo. The Montreal team will provide support to students during the Montreal shutdown period and until final departure.

Students must move out of Evo by Saturday, March 21st. If students have already left Montreal and plan to return to retrieve their belongings, please be aware of potential travel disruptions and risks. The Evo residence is currently allowing students back in to retrieve their belongings when returning from abroad, however this is subject to change. If students have concerns about their ability to retrieve their belongings and move out of Evo, please contact Genevieve Lord at glord@champlain.edu immediately.

We recognize that the Montreal study abroad experience is wholly unique; we are working with faculty over the next 10 days to begin the transition to remote learning while maintaining as much of an Montreal experience as possible. Once remote instruction begins we are committed to helping students engage in that new environment. We will provide additional details regarding the start of classes via email in the near future.

Upon return to the United States, Champlain College health officials require that students self-quarantine at home for a period of 14 days. As you may be aware, all Champlain College students are expected to stay home when classes resume after spring break. Our first concern is student safety and support. Please do not hesitate to contact us (oie@champlain.edu or 802-865-8450) with any questions. You will find additional resources, FAQs and all institutional updates on The View.
