FACULTY PANEL WEBINAR: FLEX HYBRID COURSE DESIGN – FOR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES

On Monday, July 13 at 7 PM EST, we are hosting a webinar for students and families to provide some examples of the Flex-Hybrid format. A panel of faculty (Barbara Columbo, Murat Gungor, Don Haggerty and JoAnn Patel) will each share insights they learned from the rapid transition to remote learning this past spring and their course design plans for the upcoming fall. The panel will be moderated by Gary Scudder. Faculty and staff are welcome to join in to listen, but we respectfully ask that you do not submit questions, as this is primarily focused on students and their families. For the zoom information please RSVP.  We will send the Zoom details on the morning of Monday, July 13th.

We are planning a similar webinar for a faculty audience in the near future, where faculty can ask questions of the panelists.  Stay tuned for that information coming soon.

CANVAS MODULES TEMPLATE NOW AVAILABLE

Faculty now have access in Canvas to a Canvas Template that you can use as a base to build your Canvas Course. Chock full of helpful tips and a clear layout in Modules, this template is an ideal starting place as you build out your Canvas course for the fall. Even if you do not choose to directly import the template, you can use the template for inspiration, exploring the structure that it provides students.

You can access and explore the Fall 2020 Remote Learning Template via Canvas.

Email clt@champlain.edu if you would like us to copy the content into your course for you or you can follow these directions to do it yourself.

TURNITIN UPGRADE FOR FALL INCLUDING CHANGES THAT FACULTY NEED TO MAKE TO CANVAS

TurnItIn, the maker of the Turnitin Originality plagiarism detection tool found in Canvas, has issued updates for the Fall 2020 semester. To ensure continued functionality with Canvas, increase security, and make new features available, faculty will need to enable the new integration in fall courses by August 31. Summer courses are not affected. After August 31, 2020, all Canvas assignments must be configured to use the new integration in order for an Originality score to be generated. See this tutorial for instructions on how to enable the new integration on your Canvas assignments. You may learn more about Turnitin Originality here. Please contact the Center for Learning and Teaching if you have questions or need assistance.

STATE OF VERMONT COLLEGE RESTART PLAN

On Monday, July 6th the State of Vermont released their Restart Plan.  The plan offers guidance on how to mitigate and respond to the risk of COVID-19 in the higher ed context. The guidelines will be reflected in our ongoing planning and policy-making. Faculty and staff will be included in the next communication to students and families focused on the residential experience in the next few days.
