Spring 2021 Update

Dear Students,

We are so happy to have you back—whether on campus or virtually and I hope you have transitioned into the spring semester well. I am writing today with a few brief updates and reminders as we near the end of the second week of classes.

First and foremost, I want to thank our community for your continued commitment to our Health Pledge and the safety precautions we’ve established to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 on our campus and in the community. By adhering to the Health Pledge, honoring campus quarantine, and abiding by the rules of move-in, you’ve helped ensure that Champlain doesn’t experience the negative consequences experienced by other college communities. Please keep up the good work and know that your efforts do make a difference.

Campus Quarantine

Today marks the end of Phase 1a of campus quarantine. Residential students will have some additional freedoms (outlined below), however, I want to remind you that no guests, including commuter students, are allowed in residence hall rooms until further notice. Our goal is to relax the guest policy after we have confirmed the health of the campus overall, following the return of additional on-campus residents this week. Commuter students are asked not to visit campus until February 8, except to access testing

The conclusion of this phase of campus quarantine means that our residential students are now able to:

  • Enjoy meals in the dining hall.
  • Gather with students from their own residence hall in the hall’s common room, while masked and distanced.
  • Gather with students who live in another residence hall in campus common areas such as Fireside Lounge, while masked and distanced.
  • Leave campus to go shopping, walk to the waterfront, exercise, etc. (Coming soon: an ice rink behind Perry Hall!). Note: per state guidelines students are not permitted to visit personal residences of friends or family.
  • Utilize computer labs, the library, and other campus resources when they open on Monday, February 8.

Beginning February 8, commuter students who have received a negative test are welcome to:

  • Attend classes in-person.
  • Visit the dining hall.
  • Gather with students in campus common areas such as Fireside Lounge, while masked and distanced.
  • Utilize computer labs, the library, and other campus resources.

Move-In: February 4 & 5

If you are returning to campus this Thursday or Friday, February 4 or 5, please remember to review the details of your THD confirmation email before arriving on campus. The email provides specific instructions about check-in. If you need to change the date or time of your arrival, please reach out to reslife@champlain.edu.

In-Person Instruction

Beginning Monday, February 8, faculty may begin in-person instruction. Your class schedule will indicate whether your classes will remain virtual or take place in-person. All students must receive a negative test from the College testing site prior to attending class in-person.

Student Employees

Students working in work study positions on-campus are encouraged to speak with their supervisors to arrange their return to work on or after February 8. Both the student and any employees who will be working with the student in-person must receive a negative test from the College testing site before the student returns to work.

Stay well,

Danelle Berube
