Motivational Interviewing: An Advising Tool for Resilience. If you advise students in any capacity, you are invited to join us in an interactive, virtual experience to learn more about an approach to advising that can transform transactional relationships into meaningful conversations with students. Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based approach for creating collaborative interactions intended to evoke reflective decision-making, resulting in positive change and increased resiliency in others. The MI approach shifts away from the advisor as an all-knowing director and towards the advisor as an empowering guide, ultimately leading to a less stressful advisor experience.
Facilitated by Caitlin Barthelmes, member of the MI Network of Trainers (MINT) and Director of the Student Wellness Center at Dartmouth College.
