Roughly 30-40 percent of adults in the United States have grown up with an addicted parent. This shapes how we think and feel, who we are, and our relationships. Characteristics of the ACOA. How are we different from others? The ACOA learns to think and act a certain way due to growing up in an addicted home. This can lead to us feeling different out there in the world and not knowing why. We may have difficulty trusting people, have a need for control, or have a hard time letting loose and having fun (just to name a few). Fulfills the Wellbeing a la Carte milestone for first-year students.
