Fall Update #12: Community Health Pledge

Dear Students,

Over the last several months we have shared updates on the range of health and safety efforts Champlain College has put in place to prepare for the reopening of our campus later this month. As I have previously stated, the health and safety of our entire community remains our focus and your participation is essential.

Today we published the Champlain Community Health Pledge for students that describes the College’s expectations of you—and our expectations of one another—as we work together to establish and maintain the health of our campus community and our Burlington home this fall. I ask you to take the time to read the Health Pledge carefully and understand what is required to be part of on-campus life at Champlain during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Next week, you will receive a follow-up communication that will ask you to indicate your agreement and commitment to the Health Pledge. At that time you will also receive consent forms to participate in Champlain’s testing and monitoring program and be supported by our Student Health Center. You must sign the Champlain Community Health Pledge and participate fully in all health measures in order to return to campus this fall.

I have been clear about how seriously the Health Pledge will be enforced. Through vigilance and hard work, Vermont continues to navigate the COVID-19 crisis with the lowest number of cases in our country. I intend for Champlain to be part of Vermont’s continued success. The time ahead will be challenging, but I am confident in our ability to take the actions required to come back together.

Sincerely,

Benjamin Ola. Akande, Ph.D.
