Fall Update #14: Academic Reminders

Dear Students,

As we near the start of the fall semester, we would like to provide you with some important Academic reminders. The View and the new COVID-19 related information on the Compass website are important resources for you moving forward. Please refer to them frequently for questions related to the student experience this fall.

Check Your Schedule

We have been making frequent updates to the fall schedule including course location (room changes) or courses moving to fully virtual.  We ask that you keep an eye out for these changes in Student Planning and we ask for your patience as we sort through these changes.

Participation and Attendance

You can expect your Fall 2020 Flex-Hybrid courses to include both synchronous and asynchronous learning activities. However, the balance of these types of experiences and the attendance expectations for synchronous times will vary from course to course, depending on the instructor. Your faculty will communicate their attendance policies and expectations related to synchronous course participation at or before the start of the semester. If a course attendance policy does not meet your expectations, we invite you to contact your Academic Specialist to discuss alternative classes before our drop period closes.

The add/drop periods allow students to make changes to their schedule without academic penalty. No form is needed during this time; please work with your Academic Specialist to make these changes. After September 11, 2020, you will need to complete the Course Withdrawal Form to request to be withdrawn from a class.  Any courses dropped after September 11 will result in a W on your transcript. We encourage students to work with their Faculty Advisor and Academic Specialist prior to submitting the form to withdraw from a course.

  • The last day to add a class is September 9, 2020.
  • The last day to drop a class without academic penalty is September 11, 2020.
  • The last day to withdraw from a class, with academic penalty, is November 13, 2020.

Faculty Message in Canvas

Be sure to check your canvas shell for announcements from your faculty about what to do and where to go for your first week of class.

Spaces to Study or Attend Virtual Classes On-Campus

If you would like to study on campus or attend a remote class using a campus space we have reserved rooms and spaces for this purpose. Check out this webpage for a full list of these spaces and other information about navigating the campus this fall.

Your ID and Campus Access

Don’t forget to bring your ID to campus. All campus buildings are key-card access only.  Provided that you have completed your health pledge and consent forms, your ID will be activated and you will be able to swipe into campus buildings. If you need a new or replacement ID, please contact compass@champlain.edu.

Masks & First Week Questions

If you forget your mask during your first week on campus, stop by Hauke Courtyard, CCM Commuter Lounge, or Finney Quad where we’ll have extra masks and staff on hand to answer your questions. Beginning September 7, if you forget your mask you will need to attend your class virtually.

If you are fully virtual your first week and have questions you are welcome to connect with Compass Student Services: call or text: 802.992.1474 or email compass@champlain.edu.
