Message to Students Eligible for Housing & Meal Plan Credits

Dear Students,

I am writing to share additional details regarding refunds and credits for housing and meal plan charges for the period of remote instruction. This message outlines how credit amounts were determined and important steps you need to take to complete the process. Thank you for taking the time to read this email in full, and if you have additional questions, reach out to Compass Student Services at 802-860-2777 or compass@champlain.edu.

Students who departed campus housing between March 8–March 30 will receive a 44% credit based on their individual Spring 2020 housing and meal plan charges. This represents a credit for seven weeks of the 16-week semester. The credit you receive will vary based on your specific residence hall, meal plan, and any amount you received in Champlain College scholarships.

Application of Credits to Resolve Current Balances
Once the amount of your credit has been calculated, it will be applied against any outstanding Fall 2019 and/or Spring 2020 account balances. For rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors, the credit will also be applied to any unpaid Fall 2020 Tuition Deposits. Students have a choice regarding how we administer any refund due. You may request a refund if the applied spring credit results in an overall credit balance on your account, you can choose to leave the credit balance on your account as a pre-payment to be applied toward charges for Fall 2020, or you can request that the credit balance be used to return federal and/or private loan funds previously borrowed for the Spring 2020 semester.

Students and their families who wish to make a tax-deductible donation to Champlain College, in lieu of accepting the spring credits, will be contacted by Roland Palmer in the Office of Institutional Advancement. Thank you to those who have asked about this option; we are grateful for your generosity.

To see the amount of your housing and meal plan credit, login to Webadvisor and view the Account Activity for the 2020 Spring semester under the Student Accounts, Student Statement & Payment section. Please look for the COVID-19 Housing / MP Credit

Please complete the Google Form here using your Champlain Gmail account to indicate how you want your spring credit handled. The deadline for completing the form is Monday, May 4.

When to Expect Your Refund
Refund payments will be issued by May 15 to students who completed the Google Form by May 4. Students must enroll in direct deposit to receive their refund. To enroll, login to Webadvisor and enter your banking information under the “eChecks” section at the bottom right. If you are unable to enroll in Direct Deposit, please reach out to Compass Student Services at compass@champlain.edu.
